[Takame quite liked being around many people. It rejuvenated him. That was all the reason he needed to go down to the Fortress from time to time. It was a bonus that there were such lovely celebrations happening for Christmas. He thought to participate in the Drag Show, bring "Miss Amiko" out. But he also had to fight Santa and he committed to one greatly taxing task per night otherwise his back would hurt in the morning.
There was so much to do, though, and as much as Takame liked being in the middle of it all it required some thought and quiet. So he shuffled over to the introvert quiet corner to get that.
... spotting someone he's avoided for the past month.]
[Maxima pauses, looking pained and guilty, searching Takame's expression for responses. There's a gift under the tree for him with a tag that says it comes from Takame and Yusuke, but he doesn't know if that means the other is comfortable being around him again yet.]
...Please, stay. I'm more than willing to yield this space to you if you need it.
[He gestures to the quiet room, letting himself drift toward the door as if to leave. It all depends on Takame's comfort.]
[Takame's tail was twitching. Not because he was nervous around Maxima. Well... perhaps he still was a little. Before October he was a little more comfortable with speaking his heart around the man. Now he... felt that instinctive fear to say nothing out of turn with a superior.
But he didn't want to feel this... and feeling was still relatively new for Takame. Trying to figure out what was good and bad and right and wrong stressed him out.
He knew... one thing for certain...
... and if he has learned something here, it is to take a chance...]
You... do not have to leave... [He started shrinking into himself very slightly, but.] I... would like for you to stay if you want.
[Maxima searches Takame's features, reading him carefully, looking for any sign that he's extending this offer out of obligation. But Maxima had agreed to leave first, so...if there's an effort being made here, it's because Takame wants to keep him here.
He stops moving toward the door, and instead turns fully back toward Takame, approaching slowly to a conversational distance, his expression cautious but relieved.]
Then...I'm glad. That the actions I took back then haven't...permanently damaged a friendship I value. [He hesitates awkwardly, searching for any other words, but in the end can only say what's foremost in his mind.] ...I'm truly so sorry, Takame.
[It was true that Takame did not want Maxima to leave, but his tail was still stiff behind him. Its natural gentle sway was gone in Maxima's presence and Takame wasn't fully aware of it. He was not an expressive man but the look in the Au Ra's eyes was, of all things, guilt-ridden.]
You haven't. You haven't... [He shook his head.] ... I should apologize. I... If I were more cautious and careful I... you would not have had to...
[He stopped himself, looking to the side. That sort of talk upset Rose and Lycaon. While Takame was and is angry with Rose, the both of them did not like that Takame blamed himself. But kami above, if he did not have his strength that did he have...
He didn't want to upset Maxima, though. He didn't want to say something incorrect.]
You... Maxima, had you not done what you did I would have surely died. Even if everyone was able to return to the realm of the living...
I have felt the cold embrace of death once before. I do not wish to ever feel it again.
