[ there's all sorts of logistical reasons why this makes sense, in Gilgamesh's mind. he wants Mydeimos to meet the people that'll run in the same magically afflicted circles as him, he wants to have other 'altered' people on hand in case something that Rent-a-Cop Dave won't even be able to parse turns up, and he wants to show off. also, like, the app users barely do okay with the local shady organizations on top; tf are they gonna do with actual police?
that's a mess even Gilgamesh doesn't want to power through. so even though it's presumptuous and not in their wheelhouse, help is help. he'll feel better about having a mix of rich idiots and magical weirdos in one room with people who know where the pointy end goes keeping an eye on thing. ]
Guildmaster Priscus:
I would like to hire the Aides du Meropide for security and crowd maintenance at a semi-private event I'm hosting. I want to how many agents are available and what the rate would be to book them for approximately eight hours. Professional attire would be expected as a caveat.
- G.
[ whether Maxima summarizes or just posts the email flat on the Slack is up to him, but there it is. a shiny golden invitation to something that's way below the Aides' paygrade. ]
[Maxima stares at the email that's come in with a flat expression for several minutes, ticking through several factors in his head. Gilgamesh is looking to hire private security for a function he's hosting.
This is not what adventurer's guilds are for, what they do. What he needs for this situation is an organized security force, and what he's going to get is a loose collection of contractors with wildly varying degrees of discipline. As a former military man, it's frankly unacceptable, and Gilgamesh should know better than to waste their time.
On the other hand, the man pays very well, and he's well-connected enough that upsetting him wouldn't be wise. Meropide could use the money, and maintaining a decent relationship with a man like this is more sensible than upsetting him. It will probably be an evening of easy work, and the guild members might well resent missing out on the opportunity simply because it's not really their area of expertise.
Finally, with a sigh, he drafts a message to the groupchat:]
I've received an interesting message from Gilgamesh. He's looking to hire security for "semi-private event" he's hosting - I assume this means an invitation-only event with an expansive guest list. I've been asked to provide a number of agents who would be available for an eight-hour shift, and their booking rates. Anyone interested in taking him up on this would be required to dress formally.
I can always decline, but while coordinated event security isn't particularly our field, the man does pay well, and there is something to be said for having the good will of the richest man in the city.
Count another one who has already been pipped for POKEGO duties, so I'd be there anyway as my field of a POKEGO researcher. Honestly, Gil's kind of-
Unique. To deal with, but nothing about him would ever make me think he wouldn't pay absolute top dollar for any Aides members who helped out. It'd probably be a matter of pride for him if nothing else.
While it might be hypocritical considering that we do work for pay, I don't particularly enjoy the thought of the Aides becoming an armed organization at the command of the rich and powerful.
But I don't want to deprive us of opportunities or resources out of misplaced pride, either. So I'll leave it up to discussion whether people feel like it's a job worth taking.
Oh, I don't think it's anything that serious. He literally just wants to introduce his brother to his friends. But he has to do it in the most pretentious and insane way possible, like a rich king would, ergo - the party.
Think of it like. A debutante ball or, like, a presentation of a new royal or something. I'm not sure why he wants security, but I stopped tyring to understand Gil a long time ago.
[This one's easy. It gets Harumasa out of the bubble doing something, and he's confident that he can be counted on for security. He might be lazy as hell, but he doesn't hold back when it's go-time. Plus, this seems easy enough.
And, also, Gilgamesh is paying for his healthcare. So. He feels obligated even if that's Jun's burden to bear for setting it up.]
Sign me up, Chief!
We might not be fully trained for security, but he seems like the type to respect assertive or at least audaciously confident people.
It's also a good opportunity for the Aides getting their name out there to a wider audience. High risk, high reward.
I believe it, but it's the principle of the thing. If he's going to be calling us security as theater for this sort of event, then that will reflect on our image as an organization, regardless of the actual intent.
Still, as you say, it's not all that serious. A single precedent doesn't have to set a standard for future behavior. So, we'll start with who would be available to attend via the Aides. It sounds like two people are already spoken for as attendees.
Advertising our services to high society will only exacerbate my reservations.
Still, it sounds like not all the invitees will be of the same social class as the one organizing it, so you do have a point. I'll mark you down as willing to go.
